General Information for Candidates

  • A few days before the exam, you will receive an e-mail with the exact location and date of the exam. Please bring your email notification with you and your candidate ID number printed in this document. Check your personal details and if you discover an error, report it to the examination centre. Before your scheduled exam, read the Exam Regulations document that you agreed to follow when registering.
  • Be on time and arrive 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
  • Bring official photo identification with you to the exam (e.g., identity card, passport, drivers’ license, residence permit). Student cards are not If you cannot identify yourself, you will be refused entry to the examination.
  • Bring a blue or black pen that you can write with during the exam. Correctors and pens with erasers are not allowed. If you need to make a correction in the answer grid of the reading or listening comprehension answer sheets, the correction must be clear and legible. You will receive instructions on making corrections at the start of your language exam.
  • It is not necessary to dress formally – you can wear comfortable clothes. You can bring something to drink during the exam and you may bring this item into the exam room.
  • On the written communication section of the exam, candidates may use printed monolingual and bilingual dictionaries. Thematic dictionaries cannot be used. The examination sites cannot provide you with a dictionary. During the exam, only exam tests, pens, ID cards, and dictionaries for written communication will be allowed on the table. Handwritten notes or word lists may not be used during the examination.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off during the entire examination. Most examination sites will not allow candidates to bring smartphones or other electronic devices into the testing rooms.
  • During the examination, it is not permitted to talk to other candidates or disturb them while they work.
  • Cheating and the use of unauthorised aids will lead to exclusion from the examination.
  • Follow the instructions of the invigilator. If your test booklets are incomplete or illegible, or if you notice a problem with your answer sheets, please report this immediately.
  • Pay attention to the instructions in the test booklets. There is an example at the beginning of each task. Read the examples because they will help you complete the tasks. Your writing should be legible and clear. If you do not know an answer, guess because points are not deducted for guessing. You can take notes and write anywhere in your test booklets, but put your final answers on the answer sheets for each section.
  • If anything is unclear, ask the invigilator. The invigilator is authorised to answer questions about the examination, but is not permitted to provide assistance with questions related to content.
  • Candidates may only leave the examination room with the invigilator’s permission.
  • Report any incidents that disrupt the examination to the invigilator and ask that an incident report be completed.
  • The examination results will be disseminated 30 days after the examination date. Candidates can also log in to their personal Candidate Page to view exam results online. Examination results will not be communicated by telephone.
  • Please note that non-compliance with the examination regulations and the rules listed here will result in exclusion from the examination.
